LEOT Newsletter, January 2010
Pheng continues to work hard. Having been awarded his diploma last year he is enjoying his new University course studying Civil Engineering.
Learning a foreign language is an ambition of many of our students. LEOT recognises this and supports a number of students in their English studies. Noy, Phonesiva and Saythong are taking additional English classes and with increasing confidence are een to use their new skills.
Thong who is at a Business College in Vientiane received part of his education by becoming a novice monk.
He now helps other young men by teaching English to the novices in a local temple. Touy is at Business College with Thong. He recently spent two months as the boat manager on a cruiser in Southern Laos escorting tourists through the 4000 islands. He returned with a great reference from the boat owners who congratulated him on his hard work having managed a crew of twelve. He also received many compliments from the boats guests.
Saythong has recently been accepted on a three months internship at a local travel agents. he is looking forward to using his new language skills. A permanent job will help him fund his studies.

The South East Asian Games were hosted for the first time in Laos, with the home Country winning 33 Gold medals. LEOT students Thong and Chansamai were both involved with the hosting Our picture shows Chansamai and friends having fun.
Sisaveth has now returned to college after being treated for a water borne illness that was linked to typhoid. We hope she stays well and can catch up on her studies.
Student Update
Sadly we still receive many applications from students who deserve funding but we cannot accept until we either find a sponsor or receive additional donations.
LEOT is pleased to welcome Khamphay as our newest student thanks to a new sponsor who lives in Canada. Khamphay's family are farmers and unable to afford to support him through college. He will start a three year
course at college and hopes to become a teacher. LEOT currently has five
applicants waiting for funding.
Khet applied last year but is still waiting funding. He is in his first year at Luang Prabang University doing a general course. His family is poor and he can only obtain an education by working part time. He wishes to study English and IT and has asked LEOT for help.
