Khamphay became a novice when he was 14 and moved to Luang Prabang (about 200k from his family home) to enter Wat Visoun. He joined the temple to secure an education for himself, his hometown having no high school. He is in his final year of a course for novices studying Buddhism, where he met his sponsor Anca Nicolin, and with LEOT support has now also enrolled for the first year of a Diploma in English course in Luang Prabang.
