Aims
The main aim of the Charity is to raise and administer funds to provide disadvantaged young people in Laos with education opportunities.
Funds may be used to pay for secondary, high school or university education. It is unlikely that funds will be used for postgraduate education. The funds will be in the form of grants, rather than repayable loans. The funding may be used to pay for schools fees, travel costs, books and other learning requirements, school meals and uniforms.
For students living away from home, modest living expenses will be provided and for students continuing to live at home, the Trustees may consider proving a small grant for living costs, reflecting that the student may not be able to make the normal contribution to the economy of the family while studying.
The students will be selected by the Trustees with reference to advice from local contacts in Laos , and will be selected without regard to ethnicity or religion. The Trustees aim to maintain a balance between male and female students whilst recognizing that opportunities for female students are more limited. The criteria used for selection will be that the student has no access to other sources of funds and that they have in some way demonstrated their ability and commitment to benefit from support. The beneficiaries will normally be aged between 18 and 27 although the Trustees will have the discretion in special cases to make awards to students outside of this age range. Support will be limited to Lao nationals or students who have lived all or most of their life in Laos .
The Charity aims to maintain a role as guardian to the students by keeping in close contact with them and where possible, to cultivate friendships between the students in the group and a spirit of mutual assistance.
The Charity aims to work closely with relvant Lao based educational organisations and to co-operate fully with the national and regional government departments and any other charitable organisations.
