LEOT Strengthens Partnerships with Government to Advance Education in LaosLondon - 14 August 2026

Since its early days, LEOT has worked closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Department of Education and Sport (DOES) in Laos to support disadvantaged students through educational programs.

The collaboration began with the negotiation of their first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). LEOT quickly learned that as the junior partner in the relationship, understanding and respecting Lao customs and ways of working were essential. Over time, many more agreements have been successfully negotiated, allowing LEOT to expand its impact.

Today, most meetings take place between LEOT’s Lao staff and local officials, usually conducted in Lao with little need for translation. This direct communication has strengthened local partnerships, particularly around school building projects and English training for teachers.

Regular reviews are conducted with both ministries to assess progress, and LEOT is an invited participant in the annual NGO meeting held in the Lao capital. This ongoing cooperation demonstrates LEOT’s commitment to learning and adapting in order to better serve disadvantaged students.

“The journey has been long, but our ability to work effectively with government partners ensures that our programs make a real difference,” said a LEOT representative.
