August round-up

It’s been another busy year at the LEOT School in Luang Prabang with our very busy English classes in the evenings and additional classes at weekends. We are unique as all our classes are free for disadvantaged students.

We are proud to have continued our Dreamcatcher career development classes and Hospitality English classes for students wishing to work in tourism. We are pleased that many students are also learning to touch type.

Our volunteers have helped us with workshops, presentations and supporting conversation classes. Our School Director is keen to foster a love of reading and organises library classes through the year.

Giving students a wider view of life is important. Where possible we organise visits to local businesses and cultural activities. A local theatre visited us and gave a traditional presentation activities for our students.

We also continue our environmental work with students carrying out litter picks and tidying our grounds. We provide clean water at school and encourage students to use reusable water bottles. Our environmental forest garden is thriving with over 200 young trees planted and cared for by our team.

At the end of the school year, we organised many activities for our students including visits to the waterfalls and Palace museum.

In support of our local Department of Education, we held a four-week English training course for local Primary teachers.

We are excited to report a joyful addition to the LEOT family. Teacher Bai recently welcomed a new daughter. Fer family plan a traditional naming ceremony at the end of this month to celebrate their wonderful news.
